|| Just because I am in a writing mood and I feel like trying my hand at this, I'm going to have Maccenna #2 wander off despite what I said earlier. I guess I'll break the Ice...||
Maccenna's pale hands clasped the wooden ores of the small rowboat she managed to borrow for a bit. It was well into the late night and she supposed nobody would mind if she used their boat if she never told them. It was too dark to see much of the world around her, which was the only reason why Maccenna dared to venture out so far from the Diamond city in the first place. She gulped quietly in fear as she moved further and further from the Isle of Emeralds.
Panithar swam next to her. He took delight in the cool salty water and excitement could be seen in his playful eyes for it had been too long since Maccenna had visited the sea and he enjoyed sharing such an experience with her. He jumped and summersaulted and knocked the boat gleefully, spraying salty droplets upon his pale friend's face.
A pale smile dimly lit across Maccenna's expressions as she pulled in the ores and looked at the the shore she had left, with a hesitant triumph. It had been months since she had left the city and since she had seen anything outside of it. "Are you happy Pan? I came all the way out here just for you." Her eyes looked down at the young otter playing in the water but then flickered to the shored of the Isle of Emeralds again. "Now... I think we should go back... Yes Panithar.... The Current could pull us out and then where would we be?" Maccenna's frail fingers reached for the ores again but then she gently pulled the back into her shawl as her eyes spotted something in the near distance.
Etched into the starry sky was a dark shadow that rose from the waters. Maccenna's long lost but never forgotten experience told her what it was. It was a tiny Island. Being so caged in from the world, Maccenna had no idea that the many people of Lilian called it 'The Nest' and that it was a place of great mystery and spontaneous fortune. She did not know that hundreds of people flocked there everyday, just to try their chance at that fortune.
Panithar clambered into the boat as Maccenna peered at the tiny Isle, a curiosity once long lost in her sordid eyes began to shine palely through her expression. " I don't remember ever seeing an Isle there. Do you, Pan?" The otter simply nuzzled into the girl's skirts with his chilled body and curled up with his head resting upon her bare foot. Maccenna took hardly any notice of this however, as her mind began to wonder like it had once wondered long ago, before the war. She grabbed the ores and slowly began to take a few strokes toward The Nest but suddenly she stopped and looked frightfully back at the Isle of Emeralds. "Maybe we should go back, Pan." The otter lifted his head to the sound of his name. "It might not be safe."
Maccenna's eyes wandered from the Isle of Emeralds to the Nest once more. "But I must know." She bent down to pat her friend on the head. "What's the point of living anymore, anyways? I've lost everything but memories." Having convinced herself, Maccenna grabbed the ores and with a heaving effort, her weak arms began to rotate the paddles and ever so slowly, she made her way to the mysterious island.

Panting and struggling with exhaustion, Maccenna managed to pull the boat ashore as Panithar watched her with curiosity. Her skirts where dampened and sagging from the shallow ocean water and she was shivering from the cold. She sat down upon the rocky shore to catch her breath, her eyes catching the glimpse of what appeared to be a cave. She tossed her head over her shoulder to look at the gaping opening as Panithar wandered off to some washed-up seaweed and began to pop it's air sacs joyously. "Maybe this wasn't such a good idea." Maccenna whispered to herself. She shivered and hugged her knees. "But we can't go back now. I used all of my energy getting here. We might as well look about while I regain my strength."
Maccenna rose to her feet with some effort and hopped over some stones before catching up with Panithar and lifting him up into her arms as if he was a child. "You've gotten heavier." She said into his ear through clenched teeth. Slowly, Maccenna made her way back up to the wide cave. "You know, Pantihar, this wouldn't be a bad place to hide if those guards succeed in kicking us out of that city again." Maccenna slowly peeped her head about the cave and after a few minutes of gathering her broken courage, she decided to take a few timid steps into it.
"Look Pan! Look at all of those funny stones piled up here!" Maccenna let Panithar down and the otter scampered over to the nearest one and sniffed it, his nose touching it as he did so. The odd 'stone' rolled over and the otter yipped with glee as Maccenna investigated the cave some more. "Well these aren't stones! They look like large eggs." Maccenna looked toward Panithar who was rolling the egg around playfully.
"Panithar!" She scolded, "Leave that be! It's not a toy!" The berated otter dipped his head as Maccenna moved towards him. She knelt down towards the egg, hesitating to touch it. "I wonder what beast laid all these and I wonder if it is still alive." The stone had rolled farther away from the rest. Maccenna reached out her hands and lifted it.
"Wow, this is heavy!" She began to move towards the group of stones that it had left, marveling at its texture and size.
