Australia has sent troops over there, I'm pretty sure that we've withdrawn most of the frontline troops, but we still have two medical regiments over there, as well as some fighter/bomber presence in there with the Americans, although they'll be leaving soon as well I think

It all depends on who wins the election. (Australia is facing a federal election soon).
Back onto the Big Cat topic:
Puting down animals is all part of animal welfare. I learnt that while working at RSPCA. Some you can save, other's can't be helped and its the most humane way for them to go.
I'm not sure how you see it like a car accident though. o.O

I don't mean that putting a cat down is literally like smashing into a car! My god, I can't beieve you thought that, Haha I meant that the feeling of having to know that you've just killed something would be kind of a heavy feeling to bear... haven't you seen those ads to reduce speed where the guy is getting really depressed cause he ran over a little girl? |

I doubt it would be that strong of a feeling. When I worked at the RSPCA I wasn't allowed to euthanise any animals, but I was able to Behavioural Assess them. Some failed. After failure they are put to sleep. It just happens, you can't dwell on it.

If you dwell on it you just end up hurting yourself, same as if you get too attached. Working with big cats would be very different to working at the RSPCA though so I'm only guessing.

I guess you'll find out soon enough... it would be like a doctor working to save someone's life, only to realise that it was all worthless. Or a soldier trying their hardest to save their comrade, only to realise that they were already gone...
...maybe not that strong of an emotion, but still along those lines of failure...

I wasn't trying to be pessimistic or anything, and sorry if it cam out that way... but its just what I would percieve having to put down an animal would feel like... its hard to be optimistic in a thing like that, like saying that, "hes going to a better place." Because I don't believe in it...

Neither do I, and neither do Catholics, technically, because it is part of their belief that animals do not have souls.
