(haha. I know I just posted yesterday but... I really wanted to do this again. =D)
A sea gull scooped down next to the small boat and came up with a very small fish, trying desperately to escape from its grasp. A warm breeze passed over her and the small wave lifted the boat gradually and slowly. Much to Serafina's relief, she had a very strong stomach and the rocking of her boat did not bother her in the least. Today, she was dressed a little differently than normal: she was wearing a long, cotton black skirt with gold designs on it that matched her short sword, and her typical black vest. Her boat hit the sand of the beach and she quickly got out, feeling rather adventurous and excited that morning. She tied her boat to the same tree she had last time and grabbed her short sword, just in case she was not alone.
Again, she found herself standing at the mouth of the cave, only this time, she knew what she was looking for and she was excited. She had never felt quite this eager to do something before, and even at such a distance away from the egg, she could feel it calling to her... or maybe Serafina was calling to it, wanting it to want her. Serafina shook her head from the desperate thoughts and she took a candle from her pocket and laid it on the sand. Finding two rocks, she rubbed them together and the wick quickly caught fire. She picked it up and again she walked into the dark cave.
This time, she could see everything: the walls were glittering, hiding the jewels behind the cold stone, the ceiling was much darker than the rest of the cave, dripping water. She also noticed that large spikes were hanging from the ceiling, as a result of the leaking liquid. She smiled and continued forward, holding her hand above the flame in an effort to keep it from blowing out. Deeper in the cave she had gotten, she was able to see the walls covered in slime and worm-like creatures. She remembered that last time she was there, when she felt something crawl over her hand; she figured it was one of those.
Serafina, slightly amused by the creatures, moved the flame up towards them and they all quickly disappeared into holes in the stone wall. She smirked playfully and continued onward, this time she shined the candle on the ground, so she would not be as surprised this time when she would fall through the tunnel. However, an hour passed until she hit a dead end. She narrowed her eyes in confusion and turned around swiftly. I'm sure that I went the same way, there were no other paths to take... she thought to herself in confusion. She traced her steps backwards when, quite a time later, she saw a light and heard waves crashing. Back at the mouth of the cave she was. Confusion and frustration erupted over her.
"Last time was not a delusion!" she shouted into the cave, echoing back to her. This time, she ran into the cave, but ended up slipping shortly afterwards on one of the puddles. Her candle flew forwards and the flame instantly disappeared. She sighed and grumbled, her skirt now soaking wet. She picked up the candle and once again, she was devoured in darkness. She found the cave wall just as she had before and used it as her guide, once again, much to her despair.
She felt one of the worm creatures crawling over her hand, however this time she did not pull away, and continued to use the wall as guidance, only interrupting the pathways of the worms. Suddenly, the ground disappeared beneath her and she was again falling. Rather startled by this, she gasped but before she could have much more of a reaction, she was once again in the room with the eggs. She landed in the purple goo that she had already discovered during her last visit, and saw that her fire was still lit. Nobody had found this place, much to her relief.
She saw the egg that she touched, and it was still gray, however this time it had more black specks amongst it. She kneeled down in front of it and touched it, ignoring the sharp pain and easing it away quickly. She picked the egg up delicately and cradled it to her chest, staring at it in wonder. She felt a sudden warmth emerge inside of her, and she couldn't help but smile into the fire-lit cave. She looked around the room and saw the cave exit, the one that did not allow her to carry the egg out of. She was forced to leave it there, in its nest with its brothers and sisters.
She stood up and carefully placed the egg on the ground. Taking off her skirt, with her leather shorts beneath it, she wrapped the egg in the warm cloth and placed it beside the fire. All eggs need warmth to grow, Serafina thought, and if there was any hope of this egg having something living inside of it, it needed warmth. Serafina rubbed her hands beside the fire, but moments later she heard a crash nearby. Her eyes shot in the direction of the nest when she saw an unusual figure emerging from it, mumbling something inaudible.
Suddenly, she felt a pain to her heart, and a motherly instinct washed over her. Her eyes darkened at the invader. The young man's eyes stopped on Serafina and he stepped forward, fully emerged into the light. He smiled softly and said, "Ah, so I'm not the only one here. Looks like you have been here for quite a while. Do you know what this place is?" He lifted up his arms to reveal the purple goo. "And do you know what this stuff is?"
She stood up sharply and walked towards him, her eyes dark and of warning. Without another moment's hesitation, and without thinking, her hand quickly moved to the man's neck and she pushed him against a wall. He struggled beneath her strength, and managed to say, "What is wrong with you?! I'm sorry!" Serafina ignored him and her grip tightened. She didn't know what had overcome her, but she wanted nothing more than for this man to be rid of.
"What are you doing here? You are not supposed to be here," she said darkly, her voice much deeper than normal. The man could no longer speak, as his hands shot to her hand and he tried to push her away. Serafina stared at the man desperately, not taking her eyes off of him. When his eyes began to grow wide and his breath had finally caught, however, she was removed from her trance and she immediately pulled away. The man gasped for air.
"You are insane!" he shouted, standing up and running towards the exit. "You are not human!" Serafina stared, dumbfounded. She was in complete shock, confusion... Why did I do that? She looked at the egg and sat next to it. When the man had left, a calmness washed over her. Safety, protection... she narrowed her eyes and carefully removed the skirt around the egg. The egg was completely black now, and it shined like a very precious jewel. Serafina's eyes were wide with amazement. She looked at the exit and again, she thought, Why did I do that...? Because that wasn't me...
